Well, hello there again.
Since my return to Austria is drawing nearer I am thinking about the tons of things I want to do when I'm back there, that I currently can't do... for example sewing!
I really like sewing, though I'm not very experienced at it. But I have my granny who helps me a lot when I ask her, and also provides me with her showing machine. The last things I sewed (a petticoat and some Lolita accessories) were pretty bad - in retrospective - but they were good practice for me, and I definitely want to practice more and get better! For quite some time I had this idea about a Lolita dress that I'd really like to make myself, however it's probably far too difficult for a beginner like me. And I definitely don't want to mess it up! It's supposed to be inspired by this dress I saw at the exhibition on Suomenlinna last February, and I already have a design in mind, however, drawing patterns is not so easy when you have never done it before, and adding all that lace and stuff is not gonna make it any easier. So, if anybody has tutorials or tips on how to draft patterns for sewing, I'd highly appreciate any advice!
Anway, I thought, maybe I should start with something easier. For starters, I would really like to re-do my white petti that I did a while ago, just to see if I can do it better now - knowing where the tricky parts are! Also, the shape is not ideal and the "poof" is not really well distributed.
Then, last week end, I started to play Alice: Madness Returns, as it was in Steam sale and so I started to wonder if I could pull off an Alice cosplay. I know a lot of people did those since the release of the game, but I'm don't really care that it's an "older" game by now and many people already did this cosplay. I was just thinking that she has a very basic outfit (her blue dress) that would be quite easy to make. I have black-and-white tights and similar shoes (though with plateau), and I have black hair :) I would actually only have to sew the blue dress and apron and craft a skull for the ribbon in the back (and her pendant), which could probably be done with clay or something like that.
I could use the opportunity to sew a new, white petticoat, and this time, make a better choice of material.
And I could use the blue dress as a very basic Lolita-ish dress outside of cosplay too, if it turns out nicely.
As for weapons, I don't know if I'm capable of crafting anything like that. Then again, it would be hilarious to run around with a huge pepper grinder. Alternatively, a pretty umbrella would also do.
It sounds like a rather simple plan, and I am rather confident that I could do it (with some help of my granny). I've been thinking about doing some kind of cosplay for several years now, but never had the confidence - mostly because I lack experience in sewing, crafting and actual cosplaying. But I think this would be simple enough for me to pull off (and would be a great excuse to get green contacts!)
What do you think? Do you think it's a good idea if I cosplay her?
