Byebye 2014!

Woah, I feel like this year passed faster than ever!
I guess it's a sign of growing old when you feel that year after year is rushing by, and it makes a little bit sad ^^"

But on the other hand, such a blog entry is the perfect opportunity to think back of all the things that happened in the past year and to recognize that after all, it was a year full of change and positive achievements!

I will once again review my year using the questions from the previous entries I did (2013, 2012, 2011 and 2012. Holy shit, that means in 2015 will be my blog's 5th "birthday"!)

As for today or rather tonight, I will spend New Year's Eve alone at home because my boyfriend has to work - a convenient excuse to leave work ealier myself because he needed the car. I feel like a very dedicated scientist at the moment, spending every day at the lab, even tomorrow and on Friday I will work, haha! But this is the great thing about my job, I love what I do so much that even after everything failed repeatedly, I love to go to work, even on holidays, to try again and do a good job! But let's look at 2014 in a bit more detail....

Wings & Hearts

Hello guys!

After two very boring holidays I feel like I wasted most of my free time not really doing anything. Today my boyfriend and me went shopping to buy some of the stuff we actually had planned to buy before Christmas, not just for us but also some presents for relatives we're only about to see next week etc. So I used the opportunity to wear some make up!

I'm wearing the raven pendant I got from my boyfriend ♥

Back in 2006 when I met my boyfriend I was this little wannabe Gothic-girlie with a really messed up style, and over the years I dabbled into so many different styles, but never really got quite "into" anything completely. I guess I just don't have the dedication to a single style to put all my money into it. So even now, I'm just wearing whatever I feel fits the occasion. When we meet my family, I mostly go for more cute and dolly styles like Gyaru inspired or toned down casual Lolita. I feel like the pink hair thing was already shocking enough for everyone and they don't need to think I'm still sacrificing goats in ma darkened room or something like that. I'd rather frequently be compared to  that Anastasuya Shpagina girl and called "manga girl" in a joking manner.

So, to sum it up, I (and my boyfriend thinks so too, haha) feel like this goth-like style is something that I've been kinda neglecting lately. Though I often wear various band or festival shirts and such at work I don't get all dressed up, I wear no make up or jewelry for work, and yeah, I kinda missed it! It was fun to try this once again.

I might have grown out of Christmas after all

Hey guys!

How was your Christmas?
In Austria, as in many other countries in Europe, we celebrate Christmas on the evening of the 24th and give presents to our loved ones. As a child, I used to love unwrapping my presents and playing with them till late at night, knowing that I can sleep long on the following holiday and play again!

Our Christmas tree this year was black-silver-white with a snowflake theme ♥ We had much too warm weather for my taste this December, so I tried to compensate the lack of snow :) The black ornaments are not seen very well but they sparkled beautifully and give the tree a very nice touch!

I forgot how to human (but it's okay)

Yo, I'm back with some random blabla and also some outfit photos!

On Sunday my family had a huge gathering for Christmas and also my grandma's birthday. This has become somewhat of a tradition, and it's really cool to see my whole "clan" together at least once a year! Actually all of us still live in the local area, and we're a pretty big family so when we all come together... well, let's say at the beginning of our relationship my boyfriend used to joke that we're the local mafia or something (the fact that there is a small spot in my old home village that is named after my grandma's family probably didn't help fight that prejudice, haha).

So, anyway, it was a welcome excuse to pick up some make up brushes and wear something nice for a change.

I was like "Hey I could use some fake lashes, perhaps the not-too-obvious-ones?" and accidentally grabbed a similar looking, much more obvious pair, so I ended up using bottom lashes as well XD

International Lolita Day 2014 - Winter Edition

Hey guys!

Yes, it's that time of the year again! Christmas? No, I mean International Lolita Day, of course ;D

This winter I once againd decided to organize a little meet up, this time it was really casual because I just really wanted to do something "wintery" for the Winter ILD... so I suggested we go ice skating! At first I was unsure if poeople would like the idea, but in the end we were a nice little group after all ^^

Taking a group photo without a designated photographer is always a challenge, but we found a nice spot to take photos in the Stadtpark ^^

Von Gewalt - und deren Legitimation

Sorry non-German speaking folks, I feel like this entry is better put to words in German this time. If you'd like, you can try to use google translate to get a idea on what I'm saying here.

Happy 10th Anniversary, WoW (and other excuses for lack of posts) !

Hello everyone!

In case you've been wondering about my "absence" it's easily explained by the fact that World of Warcraft has launched its newest expansion and for the past week I have been busy power leveling, because this time for real, I want to experience the new content right away! :D With Cata and WotLK I had to wait for about a week before I was even able to start playing due to issues with my internet... but it's a lot of fun to be among the first wave of players to reach 100, start doing heroic dungeons and such. It feels a lot better than my super late start into Mists of Pandaria, at a point where nobody would even bother explaining dungeon or raid bosses to me anymore, because everybody was practically facerolling anyway and carrying me!

Well, enough of the nerd talk... playing Wow means I really neglected some of my other hobbies... and I feel a bit bad about it! I didn't draw more than one picture for a planned art trade with my friend Jacky, I seriously have to clean up the mess in my apartment, we have to fix some stuff as well (got a new lamp for the living room! Finally!), do a lot of laundry... haha :'D

I did go out once, so I wore make up and nice clothes! Well, except for the fact that it makes me look a bit pregnant I really like the outfit XD

With a frozen Heart and a Soul on Fire

Hello little morsels, ehm, I mean, readers!

Halloween is already over, but I still want to show you some pictures I took last night of my makeshift "costume"!

Originally I planned to go to a party, my boyfriend even changed his shifts to have a free weekend to spend together. However, the host of the party fell ill so it was canceled. We decided to spend a cozy night at home instead, but I still wanted to try out my make up & costume as I had planned, and I even managed to get some almost-decent photos!

Sultry Thursday: Comfort Zone

After what feels like a hundred years, last week end I decided to grab my brushes and put on some make up again!

The occasion is the "Sultry Thursday" project initiated by Godfrina from Kalter Kaffee. I currently don't really have a lot motivation (or inspiration) to do make up, so I welcomed the idea of having a set of "rules" to stick to. Gofrina's project currently doesn't have a set of colors as prerequisite, instead she chose a palette - in my eyes a great idea to collect ideas what to do with the colors of such a palette!

At first I was hesitant to participate because I don't even own Wet'n'Wild's Comfort Zone palette. It looks really pretty though, and when I came to think about it I noticed that I have quite similar colors somewhere in my make up collection. So in the end, I decided to give it a try, and this is what I came up with!

Review: "Magic Hair Curlers"

Hello guys and welcome to the very first blogpost written from my new computer, wohoo! It's great to finally, after so many years, have a proper system to work with, and I especially enjoy my new keyboard... even faster typing, perhaps this means I can write new blogposts faster too and thus post more frequently, haha! Well, we'll see :)

Today I want to tell you about my experiences with hair curlers, also called curl formers... well, I don't really think those things have a real, distinct name (yet), so I'll just call them magic hair curlers for the time being :D
These weird, colorful things seem to be a rather new thing, last summer I read a review about them and seemed very intrigued so I looked around on ebay and soon found some to try it all out...
Since even though I cut my hair it is still pretty long, I will try to give some advice to people with long hair who want to try this kind of product in the course of my review!

I want to apologize in advance for the bad photo quality. Time and daylight are not something I am currently blessed with in abundance, so I just tried to take some snapshots here and there, to illustrate this review at least a little bit!

Long story short: Yes, they do work and make nice curls! For the long story...

Picture My Day #16 - Yeah Science, Bitch!

Today was "Picture my Day" day once again (I missed #15 D: But here are the posts of previous PmdDs that I participated in: 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 and 7 ). This time organized by Sumi, she chose this particular date because it would be her first day working at a new company - and coincidentally, it was the same for me!

Some of you might know that I'm starting to work on my Master's thesis now, but since I want to keep a "low profile" about these things in the future for various reasons, I probably won't write about my work in the future. In case you're curious what I'm doing, feel free to message me on my facebook fan page though.

Anyhow, so for those of you who never heard of PmdD - on this day, participants take photos of whatever happens that day, be it super exciting fun stuff or just their regular work day routine. For me, it was more or less both. On one hand, starting at a new work place is of course always exciting, but since I did some pretty routine work on my first day I don't really have very exciting stuff for you to show. But I guess starting with today, this is what most of my workdays will probably look like. If you're curious what it's like - read on! I took the photos with my cell phone, so I apologize in advance for the quality ^^"

"Goooood morning! You awake yet?"

The Classic Varis-Birthday-Fail

So, yesterday was my birthday, and I guess it wouldn't really be my birthday if everything went really awesome for once.

The day itself was cool, I got lots of nice wishes from people via twitter, facebook, instagram and text messages and whatnot, and I went to have dinner at my parents' place with my boyfriend. The weather was perfect too, I asked if we could have a barbeque if the weather is nice and it was! On Sunday we'll have the usual family gathering that my birthday usually turns into, because when I start inviting not only my grandma and grandaunt but also my aunt (who has the same birthday as me) I also have to invite my other aunt and uncle, and all of my cousins, and of course their kids, and our neighbors (who are like aunt/uncle and cousins to me) and of course my siblings and step-cousins and... all of the suden you have 30 people in the guest list ^^
Fortunately my parents don't mind hosting these parties every year so if the weather is nice we'll hopefully have a garden party to also celebrate the end of summer a bit!

But anyway. I took the opportunity that I went out yesterday to wear some make up!
I haven't worn make up since I got my new hair color, so it was fun to see how it would change my look :3

I have an eyebrow crisis atm. I hate their shape, but I don't wanna pluck/shave them completely or anything like that. Is there a way to train your eyebrows to grow in a different shape? haha.

Yep, my hair is now magenta-red-purple-something. Actually, it was more of a coincidence that the color turned out like this, but anyway, I think it's okay. I wish the tips were a bit lighter but they might turn lighter after a few washes I guess. Until then, I wear them in a bun or ponytail a lot so I see mostly the magenta part - I love this color!! I think it suits me also when I don't wear any make up which wasn't the case with black hair... so in general, I'm really happy, after the next bleach I'll try to go all pink and soon perhaps pastel colors I guess :)

The Hair Diary Part II: Bleaching Experiences

Hey guys!

As promised, I wanted to document my hair experiments here on my blog! Meanwhile I am one step closer to getting my hair light enough to try all the colors of the rainbow, just like I wanted! But first there comes the bleaching....

1. Bleaching with Schwarzkopf Perfect Mousse

After I used Colour B4 on my hair to remove some of the black pigment, I was left with a dark red that was turning mostly black towards the tips. The effect looked pretty much ombre hair like, so I wasn't too displeased. If I wanted to go for a dark red, I could have definitely started here and waited for the dark tips to grow out over time. Alas, I want to try some different colors - so I had to bleach.

The first product I used was Schwarzkopf Perfect Mousse. I found it on discount in a store and bought the last two packages, I've been looking for it for a while now because I thought it would be easier to use a mousse than a cream bleach... after all, I have never bleached my hair by myself and the last time I went to the hairdresser and got it bleached from dark brown to light blond I lost a considerable amount of hair and also cut it to chin length, and this time I wanted to be really extra careful to avoid damaging my hair too much. I wasn't able to find the product anywhere else and I didn't see it online either, I think the nuance 1200 (the strongest lightener) is not sold here, but at least 1000 is at some places.

First, I was really happy with how easy it was to apply. The foam smells pretty nice and I did not experience any burning or itching on my scalp. I simply applied the foam strand by strand, which was much easier than the Colour B4 treatment, since my hair was so much shorter now!

Back to... Mischief!

Hello there!

It surely has been a while since you last heard from me if you didn't follow me on twitter or instagram, but I'm still alive and kicking :D We just came back from our big trip to Australia yesterday, and I'm still busy doing laundry, running some of the errands that accumulated over the past few weeks and sorting through some gigabytes of photos and videos that we took.... but I'll be back to "regular" blogging soon, I promise!

So, talking about travels and photos...
I've been gone for a long time and took quite a lot of photos, and I really don't wanna "flood" you guys with all that info. So I wonder, what would you be most interested in reading about? We did a lot of different activities while in Australia that I could write about, such as a sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands, snorkeling, a camping trip to the Tablelands where we saw rain forest and the Australian "bush" and its plant- and wildlife... and we've been to Sydney for some city sightseeing! During most of the time we were living with my boyfriends mum on Magnetic Island, so I could also talk a bit about "daily life" in Australia and the experiences we had there.
As the nerdy biologist that I am, I'd also be happy to fill an entry or two with info about Australia's flora and fauna that I got to observe, photograph, feed, swim with and on some occasions even pet and cuddle with :)
Just let me know what YOU would like to read about, and I will take those suggestions into consideration!

DIY: Mirror, mirror.....

This blog post was written in advance and is posted automatically while I'm on vacation. Please understand that I have no regular internet access and might not be able to answer questions or moderate comments right away.

What's up guys?

Before we left for our vacation, we did some, eh, "home imporvement" you could say! One of the two was a little DIY project I had planned for a long time, and now I finally found the time (and patience) to do it :) I posted a little teaser on my twitter a while ago, so basically this is the "solution" what I did with this: I etched a mirror!

First, I sketeched the design on paper. Those kind of vines with thorns and leaves are also part of my signature that I use for art and as a little watermark on photos. People ofen ask me if it has to do anything with Finish rock band The Rasmus and in fact, it kinda has, but only remotely, because I designed my signature in a time where I listened to their album "Dead Letters" a lot, and I really liked their logo. I still tried to give it a personal touch with the thorns though, and I guess maybe it's time to do an overhaul of my signature too pretty soon?

I even thought about getting the vines tattooed one day. They do kind ahave a deeper meaning to me. I just wanted to put something very personal on my mirror, something that would make it unique. So after thinking about copying the style of an Art Nouveau frame I quickly ditched that thought in favor for my beloved vines :)

The etching is done with a special kind of paste, so to protect the areas you don't want to get etched, you use "window color foil". I don't know if it's really called that but I remember that back when I did a lot of window color as a kid I used this foil to draw window color directly on there, which allowed them to be removed and stored much easier than without. When my boyfriend etched two glasses and a jar for my birthday last year, he had to use a slightly different technique. He had to cut out the motive first, and then put the foil on the glass. But since a mirror is a flat surface, and my design had "gaps" which would make the placement of the foil on the mirror quite difficult, I just copied the design to the foil with a black permanent marker. This way, I was also able to get the design on the foil symmetrically by simply turning the foil with the second half of the motive upside down.

Then I cut out the parts of the design that were supposed to be etched directly on the mirror! Fortunately it doesn't really matter if you scratch the surface because these spots will be etched anyway. It was a bunch of work, and at some points really tricky because you see the whole motive double.

The paste we used for etching is actually not available within the EU because it is slightly corrosive. So you have to order it online from the US (I don't know where my boyfriend got it but the product is called "Armour Etch"). Personally, I think it's really idiotic that the stuff was banned here, because people will just resort to even more corrosive stuff that is definitely more dangerous like hydrofluoric acid or whatever - because THAT stuff is available to buy here nonetheless. But anyway. The stuff is pretty cool, you can easily apply it with a brush and will notice pretty quickly what it will do to the glass. I think you can influence the intensity of the etching by letting it soak longer, we left it for about an hour. I wouldn't leave it on longer, simply because due to capillary force the paste will get "sucked" underneath the foil - no matter how well it sticks to the mirror - and it will make the edges of your motive appear frizzled.

We did this last steps out in the open in my boyfriend's grandma's garden. When you do glass wear and smaller stuff it's now problem to do it inside and then wash your item in the sink, but I didn't want to wash the mirror in my bathtub to avoid scratches (on the bathtub :'D). In the garden it's easier to wash it off, and the paste doesn't do any damage to the grass, just dilute/rinse it well and it should be no problem for the ground.

So the last step is to simply wash off the paste and marvel at the result!

Haha, the camera focused on the mirror image of the ceiling of the old garden shed XD

I'm really happy with how this little project turned out :3
We didn't have time to mount the mirror yet (we have to borrow a percussion drill to get through our walls...) but nevertheless I wanted to place the mirror above the make up table to get an impression on how it will look like, and I love it ♥

I think etching is a very cool way to customize glass wear of any kind! Also, when you do it to a mirror or other flat glass surface, it's really easy to make even more complicated designs with cut-out parts and such.

But...
There's even more "mirror-related DIY" !

We recently mounted my old mirror, in a very  nifty way actually. Since we didn't want to drill holes anywhere in the walls or doors, we bought a set of those metal rails that drawers have, and we fixed them to the backside of the mirror and mounted the whole thing on the side of the wardrobe....

Now there's some use for the empty space between wardrobe and book shelf, and I have a mirror until we one day perhaps get a new wardrobe to replace that old one :) And it also means I can take more "casual" outfit photos when I don't have time to set up the camera before I go :3 Like this one!

Here's a recent outfit!

I tried some Ouji/Kodona inspired outfit lately. Curiously, my boyfriend really likes this style so I feel comfortable wearing it when I'm going out with him :) And it's super comfortable and I like it a lot. I am really glad I got those Creepers from Primark, I already wore them a few times and they just match so many different outfits and styles!

Now there's one more "mirror project" left, and that's to get a mirror in our hallway. I kept forgetting it again and again during our last visits at Ikea, but I want to buy mirror tiles and mount them to our ugly brown front door. Since we have a spy hole and obviously it's at about face height, we can't mount a usual mirror there, unless we either cover up the spy hole or mount it in such a way that you can only see yourself downwards from the neck :'D So yeah, I hope I don't forget to buy those tiles next time we're at Ikea!

Hope you're having a good time - I'm still abroad for a while, so I probably can't answer your comments right away, sorry for that! But if you have any questions concerning glass etching or anything else feel free to ask :)

Bye!

The Hair Diary Part I: ColourB4 Review

This blog post was written in advance and is posted automatically while I'm on vacation. Please understand that I have no regular internet access and might not be able to answer questions or moderate comments right away.

It was time for a change.

Since about 4 years I've constantly dyed my hair black. And I was quite happy with it. Occasionally I thought, colorful hair would be pretty cool - I always wanted purple hair when I was around 16, but it never worked the way I wanted because the colors I got from the drug store were too dark, too reddish, not vibrant enough. Over the last years, I got to know more and more people with exciting and gorgeous hair colors. Red, purple, pink, blue and even green. I was enticed. I wanted it for myself more and more. My first time wearing a wig made me long for a different hair color even more. And this summer, I thought "Heck, why not just give it a try?"

I talked a bit about my current hair condition in this entry, but this time I wanna start from the beginning. I want to document the changes my hair goes through, and I want to review the products I used and how well they worked for me (or not). Since this process until I get my hair really bleached blond so that I can start to dye it in all colors of the rainbow will probably last quite a while, I'll just split this in several parts and post a new part whenever something has changed. For now, let's talk about the first steps.

Starting point: black.

Hope for the best, fear for the worst

Guys, the trip to Australia is coming closer and closer!!

We will depart on Monday evening and fly via Dubai to Singapore, then to Brisbane and then to Townsville. First we will stay with my boyfriend's mum who has a little house on Magnetic Island (it's about as awesome as it sounds) and probably go on a camping trip North along the coast with her and her boyfriend. On our way back we'll fly via Sydney where we'll have another two days for sightseeing and hopefully visiting the Sydney Aquarium to see some sharks!

I can hardly believe how fast the last weeks have passed. There's so little time left and so much to do.
I honestly wanted to prepare stuff for my blog, write some blog entries in advance to be posted while I'm gone, but I seriously didn't have time. While we'll probably get prepaid SIM cards for our phones to stay in touch with people at home, I won't be able to rite entire blogposts. However, I'll probably update my instagram and perhaps even post on facebook from time to time. In case you get bored while I'm gone, you can also leave me a question on ask.fm and I'll try to find some time to answer. Maybe I'll find some spare minutes between running errands, meeting relatives and packing to prepare a post before Monday, but don't count on it. Anyway, I'll probably have A LOT to tell when I'm back to compensate for the upcoming little "hiatus" :)

Blogliebe ♥

German only entry, because I'll be talking about German blogs, sorry guys!

Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn.

Why you should always save Confirmation of Purchase E-Mails from Steam

Hey guys!

Today I have a very different blog post, but I wanted to tell this story so that people can avoid running into problems with Steam like I did. Let me tell you about a Skyrim DLC that vanished from my game library and my futile efforts to get it back - all because I could not prove that I owned it in the first place!

So, a while ago I decided to play Skyrim again after a pretty long time. I hadn't played since last year and after I had to re-install Windows on my computer a while a go I didn't even have the game installed. So after I downloaded Steam and installed the game, I was happy that my savegames were also synched from the cloud, and I could start to play right away, exactly where I left off.

But then something strange happened. I remembered that the last time I had played, I had spent my time farming materials to build a house - content from the Hearthfire DLC. I chose to build my character a home in Lakeview manor. I had all the interior expansions of the house finished, had my character's spouse move there and even adopted a child to live there. I remember that I encountered a funny armor bug while "living" there, wherein my character's husband and steward would run around naked all the time because for some reason the better armor I gave them reset their default armor or something. Anyway, fun was had, battles were fought, I didn't play much in summer but once again shortly in November, and before I put the game "on hiatus" again for a while, I saved right there in my house.

My last saves in Lakeview Manor.

But after I logged in.... I didn't find myself in my character's house. I was somewhere in the wilderness and slightly confused. And it began to dawn on my that for some reason, maybe the manor was gone? A quick check of the map confirmed this - the location marker wasn't there. I didn't remember the exact spot, so I checked on the internet and looked for the place - the entire location was gone.

Ahoi!

Ahoi guys! :D

Before the month is over, I wanted to show you a recent outfit of mine. I'm getting really lazy with those outfit posts lately, mainly because I don't wear nice clothes very often recently :'D And if I do (or have to) I'm in such a hurry that I don't get any good photos. But anway, lately we went to the cinema and I decided to wear a casual Lolita outfit and my new Innocent World Sailor OP!

Shop Review: HanaVillage.com + Dolly Wink eyeshadow and eyeliner

Hey guys!

How are you?
I've been quite busy over the week end, so I didn't find proper time to do this review but now here it is!

Recently, Hanavillage.com approached me and invited me to try their shop, offering a gift voucher. Hanavillage is a "sister-shop" to Lensvillage, with which I have collaborated before, so I didn't really hesitate :)

Hanavillage offers mostly cosmetics and a small selection of circle lenses - you will find Asian cosmetics for a fair price, like BB & CC cream (they also have the one I use, Skin 79 Hot Pink!) and they have circle lens brands like EOS, Geo and Dueba in stock. Curiously, they also offer Instax photo cameras for sale. It's definitely a good place to shop for all the beauty-addicts out there!

With my gift voucher, I decided to take this opportunity and try some Dolly Wink make up products. I've heard a lot about those products but I always kinda hesitated because of the price. I buy most of my make up really cheap from the drug store :'D I ordered some bottom lashes from ebay once, and they didn't really live up to their reputation, they are super flimsy and when I took them off they completely fell apart. I was especially careful with the second pair, but still they lost quite some hair :( So obviously, I was kinda disappointed, but I wanted to try other products from the brand too before I make up my mind!

19th Lolita Meet Up in Vienna & MAK collection Asia

Hey guys!

As promised, I wanted to talk a bit about our comm's last meet up in Vienna. Like I mentioned before, I worked hard to finish my self-sewn dress in time before the meet up, because it wasn't nearly as hot as at our last  summer meet up, and so I changed my plans from casual Sweet to a Gothic outfit.

The weather was really nice, it could have been a bit cooler for my taste, in the sun it was really hot and stupid me forgot to bring a fan :< I don't have a parasol either, so with my rather dark outfit I was feeling a bit uncomfortable and tried to stick to the shades while we took some photos.

We first took photos in the Stadtpark, and oh my gosh, there were so many people! I was amazed! I knew most of them already from previous meets, but there were new faces as well (at least for me :'D) and as always, I felt like I didn't get to talk to everyone enough!!

I think the meet up is best described with this awesome video that Mimi took:

Innocent World order & big news

Hey guys!

How are you? I'm really great but I was a bit busy these last days, so I couldn't focus on writing a new blog entry - I will tell you what it's all about at the end of the entry!

But first, I'd like to show you my new Lolita dress! I bought my very first brand dress in Innocent World's summer sale, and I'm just super happy with it. I agree with basically everyone who says while Bodyline is "okay" for Lolita, once you own brand, you probably won't like most of the stuff there anymore because you really see a difference. The living proof is my boyfriend who - lo and behold - really likes this dress. Of course there's also a difference between this type/style of dress and my other dresses but he told me before he likes IW's designs and prints much more than my other stuff. It basically came down to a "How about you don't buy Lolita anymore, except for brand?" discussion XD

The other two goodies are form HanaVillage but I'll write a detailes review on that soon anyway!

Review: EOS Ice Pink

Hello guys!

Today I have a review of my newest pair of circle lenses - EOS Ice Pink! They were kindly sponsored by MapleLens and I will show you how they look like on my light colores eyes.

Filters to the rescue! The lenses are really very subtle, so I just used this photo to play around with some effects :3

Midnight Rose

Hello there!

Today was a big Lolita meet up in Vienna! We were almost 30 people, and it was so much fun! However, I didn't take any good photos except for some cell phone shots, so until I get my hands on some, and a group pic, I'll postpone the entry about the meet up for a while.

But there is something I really, really wanted to show you, because I am so happy about it, and actually kinda proud! Do you remember the sewing plans I talked about in this entry ? Well, I finished the "Midnight Rose JSK" and wore it to the meet up today!

Positive that I would keep you updated about the creative process concerning my little sewing "project" I had termed the first entry about it "Part I". But as it turns out, I finished the whole dress in more or less two consecutive sessions of intensive sewing and didn't really take any pictures of it in between... I was concentrating so much on doing everything correctly that I barely thought about taking photos, also, I was mostly sewing at night and the light was really bad...

Moon Prism Power, Make Up!

So, I bet everyone and their dog already knows about the new Sailor Moon anime - Sailor Moon Crystal!

I've been waiting for the first episode to be released ever since the rumors stared and the final announcement was made. After all, it was said that the anime would be more faithful to the original manga, and personally, I've always preferred the manga. I always felt that in the anime, Usagi was just too exaggeratedly clumsy and a real klutz, whereas in the manga, I felt that she is like that in the beginning but fighting as a Sailor Senshi makes her stronger and more self-confident and changes her character. In the manga, I also liked Rei a lot, wheras in the anime I felt she was pretty bitchy and mean. Maybe these differences are just in my memory, after all I read the manga when I was like, 8 years old or something, but I just liked it much more (also, the German dubber for Luna was unbearable. Her voice was horrible...).

So now that I've seen the first episode, I'm pretty excited about the series again! Watching it felt like "coming home", haha! Personally I really like the new style, and judging from the fact that less episodes were announced for the first season than the old anime had, I hope there will be less fillers and they really try to adapt the manga.

When I was a kid I was a huge fan, me and my best friend in primary school were collecting Sailor Moon related stuff, roleplaying as Sailor Moon characters and drawing Sailor Moon fanart! I think ultimately it was Sailor Moon that got me into anime and manga and influenced me as an artist (because it changed my style from "realistic" to more manga-like).

I've come a long way since then, and even if I don't draw a lot these days, a sudden wave of inspiration overcame me yesterday and I just had to draw a fanart. It was all based on the idea that I wanted to make her skirt look like a starry galaxy. This is the result!

I know there's a lot of mistakes, but in this case, for the first time in a looong while, I feel like I managed to create something more "alive" than usual. I hate my usual pictures because they all seem so dead and expressionless to me. With this one, I don't know why, but it just feels more lively. Maybe because I tried to be a bit more bold with the shadows this time. And oh, I even managed to do a background, which is pretty rare for me! Overall, it took me more or less a day to finish it from sketch on, so I guess this is setting a new record for myself, haha.

I wanted to draw Sailor Moon in "my" style for a while now, and I'm happy I was able to finish this (despite cramps and my problems with my shaky hand).
What do you think of it? ^__^
Have you seen the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal? Do you like the new art style of the anime?

The long awaited room tour - finally!

Guys, I did it!
I finally took some photos of my apartment that I can show you!

It's been a year since we stared to renovate this place, last September when we moved in it was still only half-finished, lacking a kitchen and lots of details that made it more "homely". But by now, I think it turned out pretty nice. We still don't have a single curtain and need some more lamps, but overall I'm happy how it turned out. Who would have thought it could be this nice after the chaos and mayhem that we faced during renovation?

Initially I wanted to do a video, I even managed to record one, but unfortunately I have no editing software and I couldn't do what I wanted to with freeware. But one day, I want to give you a full room tour video as well! Maybe when we have some more decoration at some point :) For now - please enjoy a little tour through my home....

Out apartment is on the second floor in a nice and rather quiet village. When you enter, you find yourself in a hallway. The kitchen and small bathroom are to the right, to the left you find a niche with a place for jackets and shoes and such, and a door to a storage cabinet.

So, if you read this post from last year and remember the pictures from back then (if you haven't - do it now! It's a crazy change!) , the next images might be the most impressive of this whole entry. After all, the kitchen is my "baby", I actually spent all of my life time savings on it, and I wanted everything to be absolutely perfect.  Anyway, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Still missing: two board shelves on the left and right hand side of the window, where we want to put our herbs in winter (now they're on the balcony). We haven't thought of a way to mount them yet (due to the glass panels). The room is narrow, so I wanted the tiling and arrangement of the kitchen furniture make it appear "longer" and a bit more open.

Summertime Madness

Hey, I'm not dead!

Just really busy lately. Or, not so much busy as rather overwhelmed with my life and everything. But before I rant on, here's an outfit I wore this week end to a family event. Keeping it casual - or rather, being too lazy to do some nice make up. And I haven't dyed my hair since May D:

~Stranded mermaid~

Hey there!

Ah, this week seems like it has been dragging on forever... coming next week I will star to have exams again so I wanted to relax a bit but in the end I feel like I just wasted my time mostly :< I don't seem to be able to get anything done lately, my motivation is absolute zero and somehow I am really unhappy about my life.

At the beginning of the week, I met my friend Mimi for dinner and chatting, it was really nice to have a good reason to get out of the house and wear some make up and such. We had a lot of fun together!

DIY: Customizing Bodyline, "summer bloomers" and making two out of one!

Hey guys!

I have been sewing A LOT lately, and I really think this is becoming a big new hobby of mine!
As promised I'll keep you updated about my latest proceedings, I'm really happy that I finally have something creative to blog about again, because lately I felt like my life was really boring and I really didn't know what to blog about, haha!

To "warm up" I customized my "Love Jewelry" JSK from Bodyline a little bit. I've been planning to do this every since I got the dress, and was collecting ideas for some time, and just when I wore it for the first time I finally had the "revelation" what I want to do with it!

Tadaa! XD It looks a bit awkward because I didn't take the time to properly fit the dress to the dress form.

Gypsy Vampire // Outfit, Shopping & 11 Questions answered

Hey guys! Before

I spam you with my latest sewing experiments I was thinking I'd throw in some daily outfit and make up and just some blabla so I don't flood everything with Lolita related content, haha! Actually, not much is happening right now in my life. I'm not obliged to attend my courses at university and since I only have 1 course per day, I don't bother to take the 1h trip by train to the city for 90min of lecture. In the 3.5h I waste that way I can easily study the content of the lectures myself. Oh the joys of university, where nobody gives a F if you're there or not!

It's getting reeeeally hot in Austria these days, we're having about 30°C in the shade most of the time, but at least it's still quite cool at night! I dread the coming months, when we will probably reach a point where it won't have any less than 25°C at night as well. I sleep so badly already, and the heat is really taking it's toll on my body D:

I try to dress as lightly as possible, but I don't wanna show so much skin because I don't really feel comfortable in my body at the moment. Recently I was sorting through the clothes in my closet when I found this skirt again, I almost forgot that I had it!

International Lolita Day 2014 - Summer Edition

Whoa, I can hardly believe it's been half a year since the last ILD! This time once again I asked around in out community if anybody was interested in doing something together so I organized I little meet up :3

Everyone was super pretty! Click for enlarged view ♥

It's very hot again in Austria, so dressing up in full frills was a challenge! One person who had wanted to come couldn't make it because the heat was too much for her :( I was also in a pretty bad shape and I suppose I could or should have worn something more "airy" but I really, really wanted to wear this dress before it just gets too hot ♥

Sharkzilla!

Hey, I think I'm getting better at regularly taking photos of my outfits, haha!
I plan to get a full body mirror soon too, so I can also take more spontaneous pics if I'm on the run to uni or such, in case I wear anything more exciting than jeans and a random shirt :D

Last Sunday my boyfriend and I went to watch Godzilla (hence the very creative title of this blogpost, also: atention, some spoilers below the cut!). I wanted to try this outfit for a while now, and thought the gray wig would match it quite nicely. I thought about the rokku gyaru style here mainly. I think a pair of spiked Litas would have been the perfect eye catcher... but I can't even afford to buy replicates at the moment, have to save my money for Australia ^^" (Also I'm not even sure I could walk in Litas).

DIY Tutorial: Wrist Cuffs

Yep, I'm on a "sewing spree" !
(Eine deutsche Version dieses Tutorials findet ihr auf Dunkelsüß!)

I decided to try my sewing machine (and myself) at something smaller than an entire dress so I started with simple wrist cuffs. My last attempt like two years ago was slightly embarrassing and the result looked very "old school".... this time, I think I already did much better and they look a lot more like they're supposed to, haha. It was pretty easy actually - even I could do it and I'm not very experienced :) So I'm gonna provide you with a short and easy tutorial on how to sew such wrist cuffs, with lots of room for customization and improvement according to your taste and skill.

Project "Midnight Rose" JSK - Part I

Hey guys!
Time for something rather different today - a post about my current DIY ideas!

Ever since I got my sewing machine (actually before that already, obviously) I wanted to start sewing, sewing, sewing. I had plans to do some accessories for a while now, like wrist cuffs and such, because they're easy and I'm confident that I can do them alone.

Today I decided to pay a visit to the local fabric store (lovingly dubbed "Fetzen Müller", "Fetzen" literally "rag" or "shred of cloth". They have basically everything but it's really hit & miss) to buy some essentials like thread and pins, and also look for nice lace and fabrics.

Initially I wanted to sew a "summer" dress with some kind of floral pattern. The aim was to find a light fabric, in light colors, and make a princess-seam OP with short chiffon sleeves, so I can wear it in hot weather. However, I couldn't find the kind of fabric I was looking for: too thin, pattern too "busy", wrong colors.... I was thinking about just dropping it and maybe ordering fabric online or something, when I came across this beauty:

Monthly Random: May

Ah, it's really been a while since I've last done one of these "random" posts, but since I didn't really have time for "proper" blogging this month, I figured it would be a nice idea. A lot of stuff happened this month, but nothing really interesting, so it was difficult to find something proper to write about. I'll just throw everything together randomly in here.

I didn't have any chance to take a photo of any of my daily outfits recently, and didn't feel very comfortable in my body anway lately. My face has been swollen a lot lately, when I get up in the morning I have a real moon face and almost no visible eye lid fold o.o I think it might have something to do with my wisdom teeth. I had some problems with one of them recently and went to the dentist and he recommended to extract the two that haven't come out yet. I'm really scared of the extraction, especially since I will probably get only local anaesthesia and never had anything "done" to me teeth before because everything was fine so far. Did you have your wisdom teeth extracted? Any experiences?

At the border between jewel craft and art

Hey there!

Today I visited the KHM in Vienna - the "Kunsthistorisches Museum" (museum of art history) was built in the late 19th century together with its twin the "Naturhistorisches Museum" (museum of natural history). If you every come to Vienna, you should really visit at least one of them. The buildings are absolutely gorgeous and the exhibitions, especially the art collection in the KHM, breathtaking.

We went there this week end because they showed a special exhibition with some of Peter Carl Fabergé's works. He was a jeweler from Russia, most famous for the so called "Fabergé Eggs". Of the famous bejeweled eggs only three were shown, but there were lots of other pieces designed and crafted by him or his manufacture. The exhibition lasted only till this week end, and my mum and I had talked about going to see it already before easter, so I decided to invite her to the museum as a Mother's Day gift :)

I used the occasion and dress in Lolita again, and tried a new hair style with my own hair as well! I also noticed that my current petticoat fits this dress a lot better than my old one :3 I tried to balance my outfit between a princess-like style with my Dokuhime inspired hairdo and pearl jewelry, but also to keep it a bit toned down because I was out with my family. I'm not always sure how they feel about me wearing Lolita, but I think my parents liked my outfit quite a lot this time :) My mum even took some photos of me!

My Make-up Collection

I've been promising this for ages, so here it finally is: an extensive blogpost about my make up collection.

I hope I'm not gonna bore you to death - I mostly buy my make up in drug stores and when it's on sale (which is also why you see bright discount stickers on most of the stuff, haha) so I don't own any special products and for international readers most of the brands probably won't mean anything to you. I also used this occasion to throw out some unused stuff that I'll probably give away to my mum and/or friends, but I still feel like I have to much make up that I barely use :'D But in my defense: I haven't really bought anything in months, and compared to my time in Krems when I bought a little (useless) something at almost every single trip to the town center, I was working on slimming the collection down to what I really want to keep and didn't really expand - though I'd die to get my hands on another Sleek palette or something from Sugarpill for example!

Well, enough of the blabla, here's what I currently have - I hope you'll enjoy this post!

Attention! Picture Heavy! ;)

Cold Chemistry

Hauska vappua!

Or is it Hauskaa vappua? I honestly don't know :'D Anyway, Happy May Day! It's a holiday in Europe so I had a day off and some time to play around a little bit. A while ago I decided to try my luck in Kami Zero's make up competition. The big price to win is a Cold Chemistry palette from Sugarpill, so I just randomly doodled a bit with those two words in mind and came up with ideas for this look. I reeeeally wanna own something by Sugarpill, so I'd just love to win, though I don't think I stand a chance ^^" Anyway, it was fun to do this, so it was definitely worth my time. I wish I could do stuff like this more often (and I wish my face was better suited for such bold looks, but I always have problems enough to cover my blemishes, so it's really difficult to pull off "fancy" stuff on my skin).

It turned out a little bit different than I had intended it but I guess it's okay. Considering my skin was horrible these last days, the "contouring" even looks halfway decent :3

I love the effect of these lenses!

Not my idea of fun

Yes, yes . in case you were already wondering (who am I kidding, it's unlikely anybody really noticed that I didn't post for a few days), I am still very much alive, I just haven't been around online much, recently.

One of the main reasons for my absence was definitely work. I don't wanna go into detail but I don't think I can keep this up much longer, and several things connected to my job really dragged me down.

You might know from my frequent rants and comments on things I find in the vastness of the web that I get easily upset about things I find utterly stupid. Lately, I felt like I kept coming across more and more such things (the latest example being people who sincerely believe drinking bleach is protecting them from getting cancer and can "cure" autism) and as you can imagine, being constantly upset about something didn't do much but make me utterly miserable.

Hiding under my blanket forever seemed like a valid option at that point, but oh, society and it's stupid expectations...

Paired with the fact that I caught some nasty bit of malware on my computer that I could neither properly identify not remove without having to do a complete new set up of Windows, I honestly have to say, these past days I have really been hating the world a lot. And while I keep promising myself everything will get better and I will work harder to overcome my obstacles, I don't really feel like I'm making a lot of progress - on anything. I don't really feel like writing a bunch of negative things here once again, so I'll leave this as it is. One of the main reasons I haven't been bloggging lately - I don't wanna complain all the time, but I can't think of very many positive things to write about either.

I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate all of you who still come by from time to time to read the stuff I write and comment. Thank you for your comments and words of consolation on the post about my cat, and all the encouragement I get from you all the time. During these last weeks I actually got more readers, despite posting less than ever. Thanks a lot!

Nothing more to say, actually. Hope you're having a better time than me at the moment, and I hope to write some blogposts (it's not like I don't have any ideas....) with more interesting content soon!

Not quite dead yet

I've been neglecting my blog these past days, mainly because I didn't feel like talking about anything that's going on in my life right now.

But last Monday I went to see the new Captain America movie "The Winter Soldier". Interestingly, in German it has an alternate title, however it's still in English - "The Return of the First Avenger". Kinda confusing! We went to watch it in English though anyway.

I really think more cinemas should show movies in their original version. There are only two cinemas in Vienna who show English movies in original and now that we don't live in the city anymore it's always a bit annoying to go to the inner districts - and especially to get back home at night.

So anyway, this was the look!

Carp quality photos provided to you by the fact that I didn't notice a change in my camera settings or something, so despite the pretty good light in my room they turned out really shitty -__-

Anyhow, my favorite thing about super hero movies - or going to the cinema in general - is putting on some themed make up that fits the movie! In this case I tried some "US-patriotic" colors to mimic Captain America's super hero costume...

Farewell, old friend

Two weeks ago, I heard that you went missing, and last week end you were found. I already knew that you wouldn't come back to us. It was the logical thing to think. You never ran away, rarely got yourself locked up anywhere and you were old. So old in fact, that those past years, when I saw you sleeping somewhere, I was always somewhat scared that one day I'd find you dead some day. So you would assume I was prepared for this. But I was not.

People say cats are less attached to their human "owners" than dogs, less loyal, less protective. They obviously never met a cat like you.

Narcissism vs Body Dysmorphic Disorder, or: The Selfie-Addiction

Hey guys!
It's time for another pretty long rant. If you don't feel like reading through all of it, I'd still be interested in your opinion on the article in question, so if you read through it, leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

So I just recently came across this article about how "Scientists Link Selfies To Narcissism, Addiction & Mental Illness". Bam. What should I say. I know it doesn't make sense to give this article any more attention when I actually think it's poorly written, but I just wanted to put in my two cents on the topic. Anyway, give it a short read and a few minutes to think about the article before you continue to read here - and feel free to tell me your opinion in the comments!

First of all, personally, I really don't like how this article seems to throw Body Dysmorphic Disorder and narcissism in the same pot. These are like complete opposites. Simply check out traits and signs of narcissism vs signs and symptoms of BDD and notice the differences.

Cupcakes, cotton candy and jewelry

Hello guys!

I somehow procrastinated too much this week so I didn't update my blog, shame on me!
Last week end I was at a party - it was Mimi's (not Mimi my former room mate, but a Lolita friend) birthday and so I decided to use the opportunity to dress up in Lolita!

Sorry for the crappy photo again...

The color of what is real /// short outfit post

Ahh the month is almost over and I still have some outfit photos left I wanted to post!

I didn't really put a lot of effort into dressing these past days. I was at work most of the time so I didn't bother to wear "nice" clothes or make up. Most of the time I'm just extremely tired lately. I could sleep all day long and still be tired. I tried to do more sports again, but it just doesn't really help. my sleep-wake rhythm is totally messed up and even if I get to bed early I can't fall asleep before 2am or so. When I get up the next morning and make it through the day like a zombie, I feel incredibly tired. At work I have a hard time concentrating. And when I get home in the evening, I sometimes just fall alseep on the sofa at 5pm or so, and wake up an hour or two later, and of course then I'm restless until it's 2am again. It's really fucked up, but I just hope it's that passing "springtime tiredness" that people talk so much about. I never had that before, but I suppose it could have to do with it.

Anyway, here's an outfit I wore before I got possessed by some lazy sloth or koala spirit:

Boooring!

Hair care routine part II: Why I don't like silicones

Time for part two of the hair care routine mini series!

Here I'll just talk about why I chose the specific products that I mentioned in my previous post.
The hair care products I use are all from a local drug store and thus probably not available where some of you live, so while in the first entry I focused on specific products that I use, this time I'll just try to explain what is important in a hair care product for me, and what I recommend too look out for. It might help you to look out for hair care products in your area that are similar to the ones I use.

A comparison pic from when my haircut was still fresh! The rest didn't change so much, it's mostly the bangs that are now finally cut properly :3 I should probably add that that was a really good hair day on the left photo, and normally my old "bangs" were just a wall of hair over the right side of my face XD

Hair care routine part I: What I use

A while ago, sometime before I went to the hairdresser, some of you asked me to post about my hair care routine - I actually wrote this post back then but then forgot to put it online, haha :'D So here it is, finally! I actually wrote about this topic a few times before on my blog, and I was a bit surprised to see that apparently, I've been keeping almost the same hair care routine since 2011 by now.

This is really more a description of the products I use to treat my hair. As far as I know these specific products are only available locally in Austria, Germany and I think Switzerland, but the general type of product (shampoo, conditioner etc) is what matters most for this explanation.

So the products are still mostly the same since 2011, because ever since I use these products my hair is in the best possible state - smooth and silky (if it's not too moist weather) and generally healthy. I really see no reason to change as of now, and I am super happy that I found this routine that has been working really well for a few years now!

„If you can’t say something nice … don’t say nothing at all!“

A more serious post is on the agenda today - and for my German-speaking readers I also worte a German version of this text, you can find it below!
Für meine deutschsprachigen Leser gibt es eine Übersetzung des Textes in der zweiten Hälfte dieses Posts. direkt unter dem ersten Bild!

Okay, so what is this about?
Recently, I came across several little "incidents" of body shaming but also read several good posts about why it is absolutely shitty behavior. So I decided I'd throw in my two cents as well.

One especially shocking situation was when a facebook friend posted her photo on an event page about some online "model" casting for an alternative/scene facebook page. She received so much hate and negative comments that reading thought them really made me sick. People insulted her for her make up, but also her facial features in such a disgusting way that I don't even wanna think back to
it. I looked at some of the other people's photos on that page, many of them were really pretty girls, not perfect models for the "real" model industry but simply people with style and an alternative kind of taste. And the hate on that page was just unbearable. People were insulting the OPs, the owners of the facebook page and even each other with such fervor that I was close to losing all my faith in humanity. Ironically, most people were not even aware that the site was explicitly looking for "alternative" people and not "normal" models.

The second, although milder incident that caused me to finally write about this topic was when Asu posted a link on her facebook fanpage  that was supposed to encourage "plus size" girls to wear what they want, even if it's short hot pants showing off much of their legs, as in the shown example. And the comments that followed were... well, at least people seemed to try to stay civilized. But still, I was wondering what the fuck these people want with their pseudo "constructive criticism" about a person who will most likely never read the comments there and even if she did likely not give a fuck about some random stranger's opinion - because if she did, she most likely wouldn't wear such revealing clothes, plus size or not.
